Master Chen Ziqiang
20th-generation Chen family · Head Coach of the Chenjiagou Taijiquan School
From Chen Village (Chenjiagou) — the birthplace of Taijiquan
Master Chen Ziqiang was born and raised in Chenjiagou, the Henan Province village where Taijiquan originated. He is the eldest son of Grandmaster Chen Xiaoxing, nephew of Grandmaster Chen Xiaowang, and great-grandson of the legendary Chen Fake. Since 1998, he has served as head coach of the Chenjiagou Taijiquan School, training generations of national and international champions in forms, weapons, push hands, and full-contact fighting — divisions in which he himself won national gold. His teaching is direct, pragmatic, and hands-on: he shows you, then he fixes you. This is the real deal, transmitted at the source.
I have had the privilege of studying with his father, uncles, and cousins, and I am forever grateful to the Chen family for passing on this art. Hosting Master Chen Ziqiang in Madison is my way of passing it forward. Students have traveled from across the U.S. for his past workshops here — this is a rare opportunity to train with him close to home.
