Master Chen Ziqiang
From Chen Village to Madison: A Rare Opportunity to Train with the “Real Deal.”
Our mini series to introduce and to refresh folks on Lao Jia Yi Lu is underway. December may seem far away but it creeps up on you fast. This December, we are bringing the source to you. The Zhong Yi Kungfu Association is profoundly honored to host Master Chen Ziqiang for a 3-day intensive workshop at their new location in Madison, Wisconsin.
Have you ever wondered what it’s like to learn Taijiquan at the source?
Some teachers talk about lineage. Master Chen Ziqiang is the lineage. Born and raised in Chenjiagou — the legendary birthplace of Taijiquan — he is the Chief Coach of the Chenjiagou Taijiquan School, the eldest son of Grandmaster Chen Xiaoxing, nephew of Grandmaster Chen Xiaowang, and great-grandson of the legendary Chen Fake. Since 1998, he has been head coach of the school, training champions in forms, weapons, push hands, and full-contact fighting — all divisions he himself won gold in.
His teaching is exactly what you’d hope for from the village: direct, practical, and hands-on. He doesn’t just demonstrate — he puts his hands on you and corrects your structure until you feel it. No mystery, no fluff. His style is renowned for its power and its relentless focus on the combat applications that define original Chen. He bridges deep, internal fundamentals with explosive push hands. The real deal, straight from the source.
A Continuing Legacy
II’ve had the honor of studying with his father, his uncles, and his cousins, and I’m forever grateful to the Chen family for sharing this art with me. My mission is to pass on what I have learned, and there is no better way to honor that lineage than by offering you the chance to train with the source of it. This workshop is a rare opportunity — especially for students in the Midwest, though past workshops have drawn practitioners from all over the world. Spaces are limited, and we expect them to fill quickly.
The workshop:
- Fri 12/4 morning — Standing Posture & Silk Reeling
- Fri 12/4 afternoon through Sat 12/5 — Laojia Yilu (Old Frame First Routine)
- Sun 12/6 — Push Hands (Tuishou), full day
Sessions run 9 am–12 pm and 2–5 pm. $75/session · $140/day · $400 for all three days. Venmo or Zelle.
Where: Zhong Yi Kung Fu Association (new location), 5006 Voges Rd, Madison, WI
